Ongula Village Homestead can be found located between two towns in the very far north of Namibia and is situated immediately adjacent a living, working traditional Owambo homestead.
Ongula Village Homestead is the very first lodge in Namibia to offer the visitor an opportunity to experience a realistic introduction to the centuries-old lifestyle and culture of the Owambo people, the largest tribe in Namibia.
Here guests will be shown, and can participate in, routine tasks such as harvesting and preparing grain, working with livestock or cooking on an open fire, and serving local traditional meals and drinks, gaining as they do so an intimate insight into life in this region.
There may also be opportunities to discover aspects of life beyond the daily chores – to witness local events and ceremonies such as a traditional wedding or court proceedings, to visit open-air markets or local small-scale business ventures where the changes brought about by the relentless march of technology can be seen in its impact on traditional customs, beliefs and quality of life.
This is a unique opportunity to learn first-hand how ancient tribal life is coming to terms with the 21st century, and living successfully with it.
After establishing the Ongula Village Homestead in Ohangwena, the Nghiwere family decided that, as part of the lodge’s responsibility to the local community, they need to invest in the local youth, and break the shebeen culture that is prevalent in Namibia. The idea was spawned to start a skills-based development and technical education centre. Today Ongula Academy works under the slogan – going from Zero to Hero, breaking the Shebeen culture. The Academy offers courses in hospitality and tourism, tour guiding, agriculture and clothing production.

Ndhovu also offers access to the Okavango panhandle; allowing for easy access into Botswana and the World Heritage site at Tsodillo Hills.
Ndhovu Safari Lodge is the oldest lodge on the Okavango River in the Zambezi region, and was established just after Namibia gained its independence in 1990.
To complement the popular luxury tents, the exciting new luxury river suite, floating on the Okavango River has been built – with accommodation for up to 2 people.
On land, the regular game drives takes guests to view a multitude of wildlife in nearby Game Parks. For two to three months, almost every year, Ndhovu becomes an island when the Okavango River breaks its banks and flows into the neighbouring flood plains during the rainy season, when the Okavango Delta is unable to absorb the increased river flow.
In our little shop you can purchase ‘Penzo’ hand-painted crockery designed and produced in Zimbabwe.

Kashana, on the banks of the ephemeral Omaruru River, is built in and around one of the town’s historic buildings. The main building was originally constructed in 1907 as a casino for local mineworkers. It is thought that the house probably gained its name from the surrounding bush savannah which resembled a wide open plain or ‘Kashana’ in the Owambo language.
The years took their toll on the building and after pains-taking restoration it has been returned to its former glory. It re-opened in 2007 and reflects its German history.
Today, the building is the centrepiece of a lodge-style guesthouse with an attractive bar and a popular all-day à la carte restaurant which is frequented by Kashana’s guests, passing travellers as well the local townspeople.
The courtyard is surrounded by massive old trees which give the garden terrace restaurant charm and ambience.
